Friday, October 17 ~ 6:00 pm - 8:30 pm
An interactive half day workshop facilitated by ICA Artistic Director, Angela Rocchio. Participants will learn the basics of chant notation and practice the use of solfège (syllables assigned to the notes of a scale that enable the musician to mentally “hear" the pitches of a piece of music and sight sing them). Participants will be introduced to the eight church modes as well. As a practicum, participants will prepare one or two proper chants which will be sung at an upcoming parish liturgy.
A workbook will be provided for use with this session.
Saturday, October 18 ~ 9:00 am - 5:00 pm
Fundamentals of Singing is a full day of learning and singing facilitated by ICA Vocal Arts Director Michael Rocchio and ICA Artistic Director Angela Rocchio. Fundamentals of Singing is an experiential and highly participatory experience. Concepts and distinctions are presented followed by practical application through individual skill-building and ensemble singing. Participants will learn proper, healthful singing technique, vowel formation, intonation, diction techniques, vocal blending, and distinctions in vocal excellence. Additionally, Mr. Rocchio will share tips, tricks, and “cheats” gleaned from his many years as a professional singer that serve to ease execution of the vocal skills learned during the day.

Musical Lectio Divina + Vespers
Sunday, October 19 ~ 3:30 pm - 6:30 pm
Angela Rocchio will lead the choir through a 75 minute “musical Lectio Divina”, focusing on one or more of the Gregorian chants from the Liber Usualis which they will be singing for the evening’s Vespers. Lectio Divina means “divine reading” in Latin. It is a meditative way of reading the Bible, in which we let go of our own agendas and open ourselves to what God is trying to say to us. The choir will begin with the larger scriptural context of the chant, translate the lyrics together, and finally, meditate on the divine Word of God through the lens of the melody of a Gregorian proper. A 15 minute “cookie” break will follow.
The next hour or so of the session is dedicated to preparing the Vespers music, with a special focus on singing the psalm tones correctly and in unison. Concluding half hour of session will be devoted to singing Vespers together.
ICA will provide appropriate workbooks and other materials for use with these sessions.
Lunch after 1:30 Mass will be provided.
